Birthday Crown/ Wreath
On each Kindergarten birthday in the Waldorf learning community in Delhi where i work, I would make this crown for the birthday child. Each birthday celebration was looked forward to by all the children & teachers. A very simple birthday ritual was followed. The teacher would prepare a new birthday story for every child beforehand. The room would be decorated with rainbow color fabrics & a small arrangement of flowers, candles & diyas would be made. Parents of the birthday child would be invited for the celebration.
After the storytelling, we would all sit down in a circle to have lunch & this special day lunch would be fondly remembered by our young ones most for the birthday sweets or cake prepared by the family! We had quite a variety throughout the year to taste- from gajar & dal halwas, to delicious home made healthy cakes, fruit custard, coconut milk kheer, date cacao ladoos etc..
Here are the steps to making the crown. We can also make it into a simple wreath and hang it in our homes or learning spaces:
To make it into a crown from a wreath, add flowers & leaves on all the sides of the crown base instead of just few like I have done for this wreath.
I hope you will enjoy making this!
